WALTERS-BOONE COUNTY MUSEUM
The Walters-Boone County Historical Museum and Visitors Center, dedicated in August 1990, is reminiscent of a traditional wood-hewn family farmhouse with its weathered boards and broad porches. Boone County's heritage, its history of banking, farming, insurance and medicine, and its role in education as the home of the University of Missouri, all have a place in the museum. Within its 16,000 square feet of floor space, exhibits tell the story of westward expansion along the Boonslick Trace, and enshrine the memory of the pioneers who settled in the heart of Missouri. See the Home Page for hours of operation.
The Wall of Fame displays the images of early Boone County settlers.
The Wall honors a wide selection of inductees, from the famous (such
as Daniel Boone, for whom the county is named), to the lesser known
(such as pioneer physician, Achilles F. Sneed). Visitors can enjoy the ever-changing displays in the exhibit hall, peruse the museum gift shop, view works of art in the Montminy Gallery, carry out research in the Society's archives, and tour nearby Maplewood, a restored Victorian home.
