Walters-Boone County Museum

The Walters-Boone County Museum is reminiscent of a traditional wood-hewn family farmhouse with its weathered boards and broad porches. Boone County’s heritage, its history of banking, farming, insurance and medicine, and its role in education as the home of Columbia College, Stephens College, and the University of Missouri, all have a place in the museum. Within its 16,000 square feet of floor space, exhibits tell the story of westward expansion along the Boonslick Trace and enshrine the memory of pioneers to war heros, and others from the heart of Missouri.

The Boone County Hall of Fame conveys the images and stories of exceptional Boone County residents and honors a wide selection of inductees such as Daniel Boone, for whom the county is named, and pioneer physician, Achilles F. Sneed. Celebrity artifacts include a nine-foot piano crafted in 1819 specifically for John William “Blind” Boone, and memorabilia from well known singer Jane Froman.
