Ann LaBrunerie, longtime collector and art enthusiast in Columbia, was fascinated by world cultures, delighting particularly in domestic ritual ceremonies. When she came upon an elaborately stitched Victorian era tea cozy, it set in motion her research into the history and cultural significance of tea rituals and accoutrements. Her investigations resulted in the acquisition of tea cozies from Pakistan, India, Iran, China, England and many other countries. This global collection combines, art, function and whimsy. These beautiful and unusual cozies from tea ceremonies are the impetus for the Tea Time exhibition at the Montminy Gallery during the summer of 2026.
We invite you to create 1-3 works of art inspired by Ann LaBrunerie’s tea cozy collection. You may view images of these cozies below and all participating artists are invited to a Happy Hour to view these objects in person. Any medium welcome (i.e. teapots, teacups, collage, painting, photography, etc.) but should relate to tea and preferably be inspired by a piece in the collection. Your work will be part of the show at the Boone County Art & Culture Center, Montminy Gallery, June 1-August 1, 2026. All objects must fit through a doorway and be ready to mount for the exhibition.
