Land Acknowledgement

Boone County, Missouri occupies the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of Indigenous people. In particular, it occupies land ceded by treaty in 1808 by the Osages, and in 1824 by the Ioways, Sacs and Foxes. We recognize the Native Nations, historic Indigenous communities, and Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now, and have lived here for at least 12 millennia. In offering this land acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history and experiences and committed to cultivating relationships with Indigenous communities within and around our region so that they might have a voice in the way the land is treated, and the story of this place is told.
